Many iterations of Nazi revivals have come and gone over the years. Led by everything from ex-SS officers, to supposed close confidants of Hitler, or maybe even clones of Hitler have attempted to form organizations over the years to revive the legacy of Nazi Germany. Most of these have disappeared, been retooled, or have been defeated by heroes over the years.
Thus, when Valerian decided to try again at the dream of a Fourth Reich, it did not match the usual pattern. Sure, Valerian is tall, blond, and good looking. But, Valerian is female, while most consider the Nazi regime to be a male dominated society, since only men were allowed into the SS. In addition, Valerian is Ivy League educated, unlike others who have attempted such previously.
Valerian grew up fascinated with Nazi Germany, but probably never initially expected to attempt to form a successor to it. She had noted the irony of the fact she fit the description of the perfect Aryan so well. However, she had grown up with the standard views taught to her about the Nazis. Those views changed in college, however, once she realized almost all the Nazi’s views of the world actually matched her own. She did feel she was superior, as she was in an Ivy League school. She felt she was privileged, and believed in the progressive economics and foreign policies adopted by the Nazis.
So, she started to research deeper into the entire Aryan mythology. This included researching the Nordic pantheons for more information. Eventually, Valerian went herself to Germany. That trip twisted fate to Valerian’s behalf. While researching at a small, out of the way, museum, she came across the Spear of Odin, leader of the Norse gods and pagan deity pushed by some to be the true god of the Aryans. Of course, it was not labeled as such, so when Valerian grasped it, she was transformed into the image of another of the Norse pantheon, Freyja.
At that point, Valerian knew her destiny to lead a new Aryan organization, dedicated to restoring Aryan rule to the world. Unfortunately for Valerian, her organization was immediately labeled as the Fourth Reich by the press and the name has stuck.
Valerian has brought in a number of like-minded individuals into the organization, none of whom had direct ties to the Nazis of old. She did this because she saw their previous attempts as a failure, and not worthy of her intellect. Though this shows of arrogance, Valerian knows that this time they will succeed in their plans to bring about the glory of Aryan society to the masses.
With the advent of the Rifts, however, brought new problems. Already biased against non-caucasians, now creatures and people were being discovered coming from the Rifts. In addition, the number of superpowered individuals increased immensely due to exposure to the Rifts themselves. Valerian took this as those individuals who gained their powers directly from the Rifts as being tainted, invading the world to corrupt it. This was woven into the philosophy of the Fourth Reich. Only those who have been experimented upon to gain their powers, or those who garnered their powers through technology or magic are allowed to join and work for the organization.
Valerian has determined David Lightfinger is somehow tainted, but not in the normal fashion. Thus, she has devoted resources to the New Market zone in an attempt to thwart any plans Lightfinger may have of corrupting the purity of Aryan stock.
